Star Rise BOM: Ribbon Stars

Welcome to month 6 of the Star Rise BOM. This month, we’re creating the Ribbon Star in two styles. These two smaller blocks are pieced together into a three-star panel, and I love how their smaller size balances against the larger blocks in the layout. As someone who is very visually motivated, I’m really enjoying this month’s change-up.

The Ribbon Star's history is relatively modern. It was named for the four corners resembling a ribbon's cut ends. I enjoy researching the history and meaning of all the blocks we’re making, but sometimes I can only find a phrase or two. The Ribbon Star falls into that category!

We’re creating this block in two styles. One features a square-in-a-square block in the center, while the other is a simple square. Typically, these blocks are pieced using half-square triangles, but I designed the pattern with the square-in-a-square block and flying geese to minimize the number of seams. (And we have a lot of HSTs coming up in a couple of months!!)

You can still join us if you want to make your own Star Rise quilt! You’ll get immediate access to all the planning documents, every pattern released so far, and recordings of our Zoom Q&A sessions. You can also participate in our Zoom sessions once you sign up. It’s a lot of fun, and we’d love to see you there.
