Love & Thread Quilt Pattern

A beginner-friendly throw quilt that celebrates everything you love about quilting.

Hearts for the love of quilting. Thread for the craft itself. One quilt that makes a statement.

June is For the Love of Thread's birthday, and we celebrate each year with a heart quilt pattern.

This year’s pattern is special to me. It features heart blocks to show our love of quilting and thread spool blocks to celebrate the craft and what holds it all together.

I designed it in tribute to the community we’ve built.

It's cozy, colorful, and built to use up the fabric you already love. And it's for you.

What You Will Make

56" x 58" throw. Large enough to matter, manageable enough to finish.

Love & Thread is made up of two alternating blocks: a heart block and a thread spool block. They look great in any combination of solids and prints and are a perfect reason to finally use that fat quarter bundle you’ve been saving for the right project. Or pull out your scraps and start sorting for a truly unique look.

Skill Level

Beginner and up. If you've made one quilt and can sew a quarter-inch seam, you can make this one.

Techniques Used

Heart blocks use traditional piecing. Thread spool blocks are mostly traditional piecing, with foundation paper piecing used for the thread color. I've included a step-by-step video of me making the thread spool block.
